Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)

Who we are

What is Unseen Matters?

Unseen Matters (A Gift Theory Sdn Bhd) is a story-driven, sustainable corporate gifting company based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Founded in 2018, we help brands create meaningful corporate gifts, eco-friendly merchandise, and upcycled branded products rooted in concept, storytelling, and sustainability.

We are not a typical gift supplier. We approach gifting as a branding and storytelling opportunity. We have completed 500+ projects for clients, including Google, Meta, AWS, Cartier, Petronas, Mercedes-Benz, Grab, Intel, and Bursa Malaysia.

Why is the company called "Unseen Matters"?

The name carries three layers of meaning: unseen communities, unseen causes, and unseen materials. We believe it is only when we look beyond the obvious that we can create a gift that truly matters. We work with artisan communities whose talents often go unrecognised. Single mothers, retirees, and skilled craftspeople. We champion causes that rarely get the spotlight. And we seek out materials most people overlook like waste, agricultural by-products, and natural alternatives, and transform them into something purposeful. When you look into the unseen, you find what genuinely matters.

How long has Unseen Matters been in business?

Unseen Matters was founded in 2018 and has been operating for over 7 years. In that time, we have completed more than 500 projects across Malaysia and over 18 countries, working with multinational corporations, professional associations, government-linked bodies, international summits, and brand-conscious companies of all sizes.

What types of clients does Unseen Matters work with?

We work with corporate marketing teams, brand managers, ESG and sustainability teams, event organisers, procurement departments, and HR teams. Our highest-value work tends to fall into five categories, which are professional associations and congresses (medical societies, legal and patent attorney associations, scientific and trade bodies), luxury and premium brands; government-linked corporations and public agencies; hospitality and hotel groups; and event management and exhibition companies who brief us on behalf of their conference or corporate clients.

Clients include Google, Meta, AWS, Grab, Alibaba, Intel, Lalamove, Bursa Malaysia, TNG Digital, AON, Petronas, AMD, Mercedes-Benz, DHL, Clarins, Cartier, UMW Corporation, Malaysia Rail Link, and MyCEB. We have worked with professional bodies including the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association, Malaysian Oncological Society, and Asian Patent Attorneys Association. We are best suited for organisations that want gifting to be intentional, brand-aligned, and meaningfully differentiated — not just a logo on a generic item.

What makes us different

What makes Unseen Matters different from other corporate gifting companies?

Three things set us apart. First, we are story-first, not catalogue-first — every project starts from your brand narrative, not a product list. Second, we work with materials most gifting companies have never heard of: stone paper, coffee grounds, recycled ocean plastic, mycelium foam, tea residue, wheat straw, and many more — and some of these are internationally certified by the Global Recycle Standard with measurable carbon offset data available for your ESG reporting. Third, we can turn your own company’s waste materials into branded merchandise that no other brand can replicate. We do not source from templates or open libraries. Every product is designed to reflect your story specifically.

What does "story-first" gifting mean?

Story-first means the narrative comes before the product. We dig into your company background, understand your campaign goals, and ask: why this item? Why this material? Why this colour? Why not the other tumbler on the market? If we can answer all of those questions in a way that ties back to your brand positioning, values, and story — that is story-first gifting. The item is not the gift. The item is the medium through which the story is experienced. A gift without a story is just a thing. A gift with a story is something people remember.

What sustainable materials do you work with?

We work with one of the widest ranges of sustainable materials in the corporate gifting industry in Malaysia. Our material library spans natural, recycled, upcycled, and innovative bio-based alternatives — and we are constantly expanding it.

Some of our materials are internationally certified by the Global Recycle Standard (GRS), and select products offer measurable carbon offset data for ESG reporting.

Are your materials certified or traceable?

Yes. Several of our materials carry international certifications including the Global Recycle Standard (GRS), which verifies the recycled content and chain of custody of materials such as recycled ocean plastic, recycled stainless steel, and rPET. For select products, we can provide measurable carbon offset data — meaning you can quantify the environmental impact of your gifting programme and include it in your sustainability report. We can also provide production partner information for projects involving artisan communities, supporting your social procurement and governance reporting. If your organisation requires specific certifications, material data sheets, or sustainability documentation as part of a procurement process, contact us and we will confirm what is available for your chosen products.

What social impact do your products create?

Social impact is built into how we source and produce, not added as an afterthought. We work with artisan communities whose talents often go unrecognised! Including single mothers, retirees, Orang Asli craftspeople, and skilled traditional artisans. By channelling production through these communities, our gifts generate income, preserve heritage crafts, and create economic opportunities for people who are rarely part of the mainstream gifting supply chain. For brands that want to demonstrate the Social dimension of ESG, this is a genuine differentiator. A gift produced by an Orang Asli rattan weaver or a cooperative of batik artisans carries a human story that a factory-produced item simply cannot. We can provide community and production partner information to support your ESG or CSR reporting where relevant.

Who designs the products?

All products are designed by our in-house team based in Kuala Lumpur. We also collaborate with local Malaysian illustrators, traditional craftspeople, and artisan communities. Particularly for heritage-inspired, festive, or socially impactful projects. Every design is created from scratch for your brief. We do not source from stock or template libraries.

What we create

What services does Unseen Matters offer?

We offer three core services. First, Integrated Gifting Concept Development — a strategic, end-to-end approach where we research your brand, develop a gifting narrative, and translate it into a cohesive product, packaging, and storytelling experience tailored to your brief. Second, Ready-to-Pick Sustainable Merchandise — a curated selection of eco-friendly products made from materials like stone paper, coffee grounds, bamboo, and recycled ocean plastic, available for customisation with your brand. Third, Upcycling: Waste-to-Wonder — we transform your company’s own unused materials (banners, uniforms, fabric offcuts, construction by-products) into branded merchandise that carries a genuinely unique sustainability story.

Do you work with international conferences and professional summits?

Yes — this is one of our core specialisms. We have extensive experience designing delegate gifts, door gifts, VIP presentations, and commemorative items for international conferences, professional congresses, and association events. Past projects include the ASEAN Women Economic Summit 2025, ASEAN-EU Business Summit 2025, the 54th Malaysian Orthopaedic Association Annual Scientific Meeting, Malaysian Oncological Society Annual Congress, ASCOMOS 36th Annual Congress, Asian Patent Attorneys Association conference, ARCHIDEX 2025, Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Congress, and ASEAN-level leadership summits.

We work directly with conference organisers and associations, and also with event management and exhibition companies who are handling the conference on their behalf — the process and quality standard are the same either way.

We understand what professional conference gifting requires: gifts that represent the host country with dignity, land well across different cultures and nationalities, are practical for travelling delegates, photograph well for press and social media, and can be produced to consistent quality at event scale. We manage everything from concept to multi-point delivery and have shipped to delegates across 18+ countries.

Do you work with event management companies and exhibition organisers?

Yes. We work with event management companies and exhibition organisers as a regular commercial model. In this arrangement, the event company briefs us on behalf of their end client — a conference, congress, association, or corporate — and we produce the gifting concept and merchandise for them to present and deliver. Companies like ES Exhibition Services, Pentagon Events, and Conference Partners have all worked with us this way.

We understand how this model works: you need a supplier who can produce quality work on brief, communicate clearly, hit deadlines, and not create problems for your client relationship. We treat event management partners the same way we treat direct clients — full concept development, sampling, and end-to-end production management.

If you are an event company that regularly handles conferences, congresses, product launches, or corporate events and need a gifting partner you can bring to briefs with confidence, we are open to building that relationship. WhatsApp us at +60 12 939 3598 to discuss.

What makes a good gift for international conference delegates?

A strong conference delegate gift does five things well. First, it travels — international delegates carry gifts through airports, so it needs to be lightweight, compact, and not restricted by customs or airline regulations. Second, it represents the host country authentically — a gift that tells Malaysia’s story through batik, local craft, heritage materials, or regional narratives is far more memorable than a generic branded item. Third, it is useful — practical items like bags, notebooks, tumblers, or tech accessories get used and seen beyond the event. Fourth, it photographs well — conference gifts often appear in social media and press coverage. Fifth, it connects to the event theme or purpose. At Unseen Matters, we design conference gifts that satisfy all five criteria. We have done this for medical congresses, legal summits, ASEAN-level diplomatic events, and architectural conferences.

Can you create gifts for VIP, VVIP, or ministerial recipients?

Yes. We have a dedicated VVIP gifting approach for ministers, dignitaries, distinguished guests, and high-level stakeholders. Gifts at this level need to go beyond utility — they function as presentation pieces that are kept, displayed, and appreciated over time. They must communicate respect, reflect the host’s identity, and carry genuine cultural and material significance. Our VVIP collections feature display-worthy sculptural pieces, heritage craftsmanship, and sustainable material choices — including reclaimed wood bases, biodegradable mycelium packaging, and premium artisan-made elements. Past VVIP work includes gifting for Cartier’s Hari Raya 2025, MyCEB, and presentations at ministerial and diplomatic-level events. Pricing for VVIP gift sets typically ranges from RM200–RM400 per set depending on design and quantity.

Can you incorporate Malaysian cultural elements or heritage craftsmanship?

Yes — and this is one of our strongest capabilities. We design full tailor-made batik fabric series, incorporating authentic Malaysian batik into tote bags, notebook covers, passport covers, lanyards, pouches, and apparel. We work with local artisans, Orang Asli craftspeople, and heritage craft communities to produce pieces like handwoven rattan fans, handpainted tiffin carriers, and traditional motif-based sculptural items. This is particularly valuable for international conferences hosted in Malaysia, where organisers want gifts that genuinely represent Malaysian identity and culture to foreign delegates. We have produced Malaysian heritage-inspired gifts for events including the ASEAN-EU Business Summit 2025, MyCEB’s VIP gifting programme, Google’s delegate welcome kits, and Cartier’s Hari Raya 2025 collection.

Can you help with Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and other festive corporate gifts?

Yes. Festive gifting is one of our specialisms. We design corporate gift collections for Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Christmas, and year-end campaigns — all concept-led and tailored to the occasion and your brand. We integrate cultural relevance, brand storytelling, and sustainability into each collection. We have created festive gifts for brands including Cartier, Clarins, and Cycle & Carriage. Planning typically begins 8–12 weeks before the festive season to allow time for concept development, sampling, and production.

What types of products can be customised?

We customise a wide range of product categories including tote bags, sling bags, backpacks, travel pouches, notebooks, pens, pencils, tumblers, mugs, coasters, lanyards, card holders, passport covers, laptop cases, phone stands, wireless chargers, powerbanks, Bluetooth speakers, plaques, sculptures, apparel, batik fabric series, and complete gift sets. Materials range from bamboo, cork, coffee grounds, recycled stainless steel, recycled ocean plastic, stone paper, seed paper, recycled denim, washable paper, wheat straw, tea residue, rPU leather, reclaimed wood, batik fabric, and mycelium. If you see a product online that you like, send us a photo — we can often build or source it from sustainable materials.

Do you provide packaging and gift boxes?

Yes. Packaging is part of the gifting experience, not an afterthought. We design and source custom gift boxes, bags, tissue paper, message cards, and inserts that create a cohesive unboxing experience. For VIP and premium projects, packaging can feature biodegradable mycelium foam inserts — made from mycelium, sawdust, eggshell, and coffee grounds — replacing conventional EPE foam. All packaging can be customised with your brand identity, campaign message, or event theme.

Can gifting be used as part of an ESG or sustainability report?

Yes. Gifting that uses recycled, upcycled, or responsibly sourced materials can be documented under your ESG activities — covering environmental impact, circular economy initiatives, or social procurement depending on your reporting framework. Some of our materials are internationally certified by the Global Recycle Standard (GRS), and select products offer measurable carbon offset data that can be included in sustainability reporting. We can provide material certifications, production partner details, and impact summaries to support your documentation.

How it works

What is your ordering process from enquiry to delivery?

Our process is collaborative and transparent at every stage.

Step 1 — Consultation: We start with a conversation to understand your brand, occasion, audience, budget, and timeline. Completely free, no obligation. We encourage an in-person visit to our office so you can experience our materials directly — this typically makes the brief much clearer.

Step 2 — Concept and portfolio review: We share relevant past projects and propose concept directions. If you need a mockup to present to your management or client, we can produce one even before an order is confirmed in certain cases.

Step 3 — Order confirmation: Once you are happy with the direction, you confirm the order with a 50% deposit.

Step 4 — Master sample: We produce a final master sample for your review and approval before any mass production begins. This phase is included at no additional charge.

Step 5 — Production and delivery: Upon sample approval, we proceed to mass production. We manage all logistics, quality checking, and delivery — including multiple delivery points or international shipments if required. Balance payment of 50% is due before delivery.

Can I request a sample before placing a full order?

Yes, and we encourage it. There are three ways this works. First, we can show you our portfolio of past projects — many of which closely match what clients are looking for, and this is completely free. Second, if a new sample needs to be produced from scratch, a sample fee applies. Third, once you confirm an order, the sampling phase is included in the process at no additional charge — we create a final master sample for your approval before proceeding to mass production. We can also produce visual mockups to help you present the concept to your management or client before committing.

Can you help brands that have never done sustainable gifting before?

Yes — and this is exactly where we add the most value. Many clients come to us without a sustainability gifting strategy. We help them identify the right entry point: whether starting with ready-made eco-friendly products with light customisation, exploring upcycled merchandise using their own materials, or developing a fully custom concept aligned with their brand values and ESG goals. No prior experience needed. Just a brief, a budget, and an openness to doing gifting differently.

What if I have no idea what I want? Can you still help?

Absolutely — this is one of the most common situations we work with. Many clients come to us with only a budget, a date, and a vague brief. That is enough to start. We will ask you the right questions: Who is the recipient? What is the occasion? What story do you want this gift to tell? What feeling do you want it to leave behind? From there, we develop concept directions and product options for you to respond to. The easiest way to start is to visit our office. When clients see and touch our material range — stone paper, recycled ocean plastic, coffee grounds, batik fabric, mycelium — ideas form naturally. A material or a product often becomes the anchor of a concept that would never have emerged from a written brief alone.

Do you have a product catalogue?

Yes. You can browse our ready-to-pick sustainable merchandise portfolio at unseenmatters.com/corporate-gifts-portfolio. However, our catalogue is not exhaustive — we frequently develop new products for specific briefs that are not in any catalogue. If you do not see what you are looking for, reach out. We may be able to develop it, source it, or propose something more suited to your brief and budget.

Is there a limit to how custom the design can be?

No. We can work from a simple idea, a photo reference, or a fully developed brand brief. If you show us a photo of something you like from anywhere online, we can usually build it — or something better — from sustainable materials. For clients who want to save time and cost, we can also start from our existing product templates and customise from there. Either way, every final product is designed to reflect your brand specifically. The only practical limits are production feasibility and budget, both of which we discuss openly with you upfront.

Practical details

What is your price range for corporate gifts?

Our pricing spans a wide range. Simple items for large bulk orders can start from as low as RM10–RM15 per piece. A standard sustainable gift item or set typically falls in the RM15–RM80 per piece range depending on product, material, and quantity. Premium or custom concept projects — such as VIP gift sets with bespoke design, artisan production, and premium packaging — typically range from RM200–RM400 per set. Share your budget and brief with us and we will propose the best fit. We work across the full spectrum from functional event door gifts to ministerial-level VVIP presentations.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

Our general ballpark MOQ is 100 pieces. However, it varies by product type — smaller items such as pens or accessories may require 300–500 pieces for feasible production runs, while some items can work at lower quantities. We are always open to discussing based on your specific brief. If your quantity is below standard minimums, reach out anyway — we will tell you clearly what is achievable and suggest alternatives if needed.

How long does production and delivery take?

Production typically takes 3–4 weeks from artwork approval for standard items. We recommend reaching out at least 6–8 weeks before your event or deadline to allow time for consultation, sampling, design approval, and production without pressure. If your timeline is shorter, please still contact us — we sometimes make special arrangements. Do not rule it out just because your deadline is close.

Can you accommodate last-minute or urgent orders?

It depends on the product and scope, but do not rule it out before reaching out. Even if your timeline is shorter than ideal, contact us — we sometimes make special arrangements. What we will not do is rush a project in a way that compromises quality. We will be transparent about what is feasible and propose the best available option within your deadline.

Do you handle delivery and logistics?

Yes, we manage the full process from production to doorstep. We can deliver to multiple locations simultaneously — whether multiple offices, a conference venue, or different cities and states. We have delivered to all states in Malaysia and to over 18 countries internationally. For international projects, logistics are arranged on a per-project basis.

Do you ship outside of Malaysia?

Yes. We have delivered to over 18 countries. While we are headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, most projects are managed remotely and international logistics are arranged on a per-project basis. Geography is not a barrier — reach out and we will work through the logistics together.

In fact, we strongly encourage an in-person visit: sustainable materials are something you need to see and feel to truly appreciate.
